Moving to auxbattles.app

A permanent home for the project, and a look back at four months of building this thing in public.

Moving to auxbattles.app

The domain moved to auxbattles.app today, which is really just the project picking a permanent home instead of leaning on whatever it started out on. Not a dramatic story on its own, and it doesn't need to be one: the point of a domain move is that it should be boring, and it was.

It's a natural place to close this series out, though, since it lands almost exactly four months after the first post on this blog. In that time the game went from a single-day MVP with a leaderboard and an embed I ripped out before dinner, to a game that runs live on Twitch, in three different formats, with real friends able to join a stream and a 1v1 elimination bracket for the streams big enough to want one. Spotify plays right in the browser now too, no premium and no app, the thing post two tried and failed to ship correctly on day one.

Worth closing with the arc of search visibility across that same stretch, since it's the clearest evidence that four months of unglamorous work actually added up to something: roughly one click and one impression a day back when Search Console first started recording anything in April, versus consistently ninety to a hundred and thirty clicks and five hundred or more impressions on an ordinary day by early August.

That's it for the backlog. Everything from here on is written closer to when it actually happens, rather than pieced together after the fact from four months of commit history. Thanks for reading the archive.
