Vote Locking, Mobile Fixes, and Not Voting for Yourself

Locking in a rating once it's submitted, blocking self-votes, and the first of many mobile-only bugs.

A floating vote UI landed today along with a rule that matters more than it sounds like it should: once you submit a rating, it locks. You can't see everyone else's scores and then quietly adjust yours to match the room. Small rule, big effect on whether people trust the leaderboard at the end.

Right behind it: you can't vote for your own submission. Obvious in hindsight, and also the kind of thing that only becomes obvious after watching someone rate their own song a suspicious five stars.

An Info tab showed up too, the first place in the app that actually explains the rules instead of assuming everyone already knows how an aux battle works. Not everyone does.

And then, two separate rounds of mobile-specific fixes, back to back, on the same day. Which makes sense in retrospect: this is a party game, and parties happen on phones passed around a room, not on laptops. That's not a guess, either. Across the site's life so far, mobile accounts for roughly 62% of all clicks from search, versus 37% for desktop and about 1% for tablets, per Search Console's device breakdown. If a feature doesn't work on a phone in someone's hand, it doesn't really work.

Search visibility was still tiny: one click, two impressions, average position 12.5. But ranking that far down the page and still pulling a click is a decent sign a few people were already searching for something like this, even before the site had much to show them.
